Anyway more on Grackle Day
It's only hitchcockian for the acorns

To elaborate more on yesterday's post - in the first week of october every year the cats get this absolute treat as hundreds of grackles (and a healthy amount of sparrows) descend on the area we live to scoop up as many acorns as possible.
They swarm in, descent upon the grass, and at the slightest sign of threat they retreat en masse to the trees. After a few minutes (and one or two safety checks from a sentry) they'll all come swooping back down.
While the majority of the birds ARE grackles, there's also a contingent of sparrows that use this cover as an excuse to get in on the action. I like how the lone grackle in this shot feels like either some kind of regulatory figure or big "came to the wrong neighborhood motherfucker" vibes.
It never lasts more than one day but it's always truly a sight to behold; I'm glad I was able to catch even a fraction of it on camera. The lead-up to it is several days of winds knocking acorns out of all the oak trees followed by absolute squirrel pandemonium trying to catch as many as possible. Then come the grackles.
For indoor cats who love sitting at windows, they get quite the October cinema experience.
