Change to End of Year Rituals
New Techos, Moons, A sick as hell photo of a cat named Possum, and musings on celebrating your accomplishments at the end of the year
Finally, some good fucking snow
Leading up to December, I thought a lot about doing a year end round-up of stuff I did this year; favorite photos I took, songs I worked on, progress on personal projects etc...and this year I just decided not to.
I'm proud of my end of year game pieces but going through "here's my favorite photo I took" or "favorite piece of art I made" isn't not who I am anymore I think. Maybe I'm wrong, but it did not feel like "me" now.
Instead I'm gonna share a few random photos from the last few days and talk about the year a bit.

2025 was a weird year! It had ups, it had downs, it had some seriously cool things that I worked on musically and artistically but it was mired by the world literally falling apart, work life being being riddled with layoffs and uncertainty and serious family and personal health issues. Sometimes it's hard to focus on the good in the context of the bad, y'know?
In the latter half of 2025 my partner and I started putting some plans in motion that will mean a very very different 2026 for us and we're both pretty stoked. We'll talk about it at some point, scheming continues for now, so I'll look at 2025 and thank it for what it gave us, and leave behind what wasn't worth it.
The only good ice in 2025
This makes me so happy, not gonna lie
Also not for nothing, while I started blogging in earnest in 2024 when Cohost announced it was shutting down, 2025 was definitely the 'year of the blog' for me both in terms of reading other people's and keeping up with RSS but also staying active posting as well.
Like sure I'm on Bsky, Mastodon and spending more time on Website League in the latter portion of the year but I'm almost always in a blog-first focus because I don't necessarily want my online existence to be tied to platforms outside of my control anymore. Losing what I'd built with twitter and then cohost was pretty fucking eye opening!
Note: If Bearblog ever shuts down I've got the ability to export and self host thankfully, the only thing not pushing me that direction yet is convenience of Bear.
Between Daily Dex, Blaugust and just regular art / photoposting I'm really proud of what I've done here. Hilariously the thing I don't really post about on here at all is music outside of bandcamp friday blogs and releases. Maybe I'll delve more into creative process and behind the scenes in 2026? These gameboys don't bloop themselves, maybe that'd be of interest to someone lmao
Part of the fleet
Anyways, it's time for the annual Techo passing of the torch; I'm less ceremonial about it this year over last but I think that's purely because of what a hassle it was to get them this year with the tariff nonsense and just how tired and sick I've been in the final months of the year.
Last year's next to the new
The robot mascot this year is cute
I'm sticking with the cousin size because it just suits me better (and gives me more space to draw pokemon every day lol) and I love my cover, even if it's just a generic one I got in like 2018 that I've added stickers to. Maybe next year there'll be a techo original size cover that interests me (I have a bunch of the EarthBound / Mother ones from over the years to chose from if I do back to original size) but I think I'm gonna be holding with the Cousin size for the foreseeable future.
Lastly as promised - here's a metal as fuck photo of Possum
Happy new year, y'all. Let's 2026 as well as we can.
No it's cool, Possum. Make yourself at home up there.
