Cleaned the studio; took some photos
(Plus some bonus cats)
Jamie posted photos of their workspace the other day and inspired me to give the ol' Fae House studio space a quick clean and some photos. We really lucked out with the questionable architecture here; place came will a basement that has multiple rooms, external access and a bunch of erroneous wood paneling.
I don't particularly enjoy cleaning or organizing things but I work better mentally in a clean environment so it's like this weird curse, man. Anyway, please enjoy the live room (and the cats, they're a permanent fixture - that's Possum down on the rug and Snowapple up on the Wurli)
This feels like a stupid brag but all of the keyed instruments in the Fae House were procured for free. The wurli (above) our drummer Joey found on the side of the road outside of Roseville, California with a 'FREE' sign on it. Even had the original owner's manual AND TECHNICAL manuals. He gave it to me when we first moved from the Bay Area down to the desert, and we brought it with to New England.
We also have two uprights (not pictured here, they're upstairs); one was my childhood piano that my parents gifted to us which Della has since hand-bejeweled and the other (the one we call biblically accurate because Della painted eyes all over it) was on the piano mover's truck, bound for the landfill because it has a crack in the soundboard. ART PROJECTS BAYBE!
The Baldwin Orgasonic (below) Della found on a buy nothing group here in New England and lemme tell you, it was a real son of a bitch to get moved since we don't own a truck - but we were committed to the bit.
I haven't had a desire (or need, really) to change my pedalboard in years so this is pretty much the same rig I used for the band's live performances pre-covid.
Again, this place has a full basement that's divided into multiple rooms and it's been the perfect studio space; in addition to the live room we have two side-rooms that aren't v photogenic (or well lit) so I didn't bother trying to capture them but one is the vocal booth; the entrance is to the left of Possum - the other is a longer hallway room which gives great room sound so I move the amps in there for tracking electrics. (It's on the other side of the weird archway that looks like a pizza oven boarded up above Snowapple).
Also - I didn't photograph my chiptune setup but if anyone's interested I can do that. It's two gameboys, a mixer and shitload of cables but I like photographing gameboys so maybe that's another post coming soon.
