Daily Dex - Porygon, Bidoof and Inkay
In which I challenge myself to draw a pokemon every day until I stop
Sat 11/15/25 - Porygon
I will always have a soft spot for Porygon. This creature was wronged by history, taking the blame for something that was not its fault.
If you're unfamiliar with pokemon deep lore (I wouldn't blame you lmao), perhaps you've heard at least of the Pokemon Shock incident where an episode of the original anime series in the 90's caused 600+ kids in Japan to get sick due to photo-sensitivity issues with a flashing light animation in the episode.
The episode was Porygon's introduction into the show, it was named after Porygon (ใงใใฎใใใใใใชใดใณ // roughly 'Electric Soldier Porygon'), and as such, this poor bastard has carried a stigma associated with the 'anime that gives kids seizures' label - despite Pikachu being the cause of the flashing lights in the episode itself.
The episode was banned from re-airing and was never edited and aired outside of Japan so Porygon to this day has only had minor, almost non existent cameos in the nearly 1300 episodes of the show that have aired.
Justice for this little guy.
Sun 11/16/25 - Bidoof
One of my favorite things about Bidoof (other than how it looks, I mean - c'mon) is the Bulbapedia Trivia - Name Origin section (which like, thank you GGP for highlighting how ridiculous this is on EVERY Pokemon, go pick a random number, zoom to the trivia and find 'name origin'. You'll often get a laugh) because it reads:
Bidoof may be a combination of beaver and doofus (slang for a stupid person).
Where would we be without Bulbapedia to define 'doofus' for us. Truly a joy every time.
Mon 11/17/25 - Inkay
I'd never seen one of these until playing ZA and I fell in love mostly because it's a weird little squid freak (complimentary) but also because the way you evolve this thing into Malamar is so incredibly silly (I won't spoil but feel free to look it up if you're interested).
Love a flying squid monster that uses psychic tentacle attacks. "Game for children".
