Daily Dex - Umbreon, Trumbeak, Magnemite
In which I challenge myself to draw a pokemon every day until I stop
This week has marked some of the first times I've not had the post-5pm "long covid crash" since I got sick back in March. I'm trying not to push myself but I've actually had energy?? and it's been WILD to think about how much of the last almost three months has been ruled by "I'm going to need to get in bed by 6 or I'm gonna get hurt".
The vibes are looking up. Here's some goddamn pokemon.
Tues 05/19/2026 - Umbreon
Speak of the devil; and by "devil" I mean in the last Daily Dex I talked about how there are fundamentally better eveelutions than Jolteon and man, it's hard to top Umbreon1. I guess until we get a Bug, Steel or Dragon type Evee; those will probably be cool as hell.
Weds 05/20/2026 - Trumbeak
When I rolled RNG on Tuesday morning I was pretty stoked to see another Eveelution and was secretly hoping that Weds would also grant me one but alas. It's bird time.
And speaking of, at some point I think I wanna do a ranking of all the bird pokemon in terms of how much are they "just a bird" vs "a bird with something fundamentally different" because it feels like the former category is winning. Maybe after the daily dex is over?
Anyway, Trumbeak is in the "just a bird" category.

Now that the national dex has 4 digits it's interesting to see the originals be retroactively given four digits; there was a time when this was pokemon 81, or 081, but now it has to be 0081 which sounds like a Universal Century date and immediately my brain goes "Hey these look like
Anyway, I've got Gundam on my mind since I'm seeing Hathaway 2 tonight - which'll be my first time in a theater since Godzilla X Kong and one of my first times ever seeing a Gundam property in a theater I think? I got invited to a friend's anime club doing a private screening of Char's Counterattack back in like 2003 that was definitely not on the up and up and really doesn't count; someone's illicit copy + a friend who worked at a theater that was closing. Very different experience than "buying a ticket on fandango and making sure it's the subtitled showtime and not the dub".
I re-watched Hathaway 1 last night as a refresher and man. What a strange film it is. Let's see how things shake out for this crazy kid.2
