Here's a Cool Thing - Vallejo Naval Museum's Exhibit on Trans People of Color
A celebration of gender rebels throughout history
In a weird twist of things I'm never quite sure how to explain, a while back my brother became the executive director of the Vallejo Naval Museum; now from its name alone you'd think that this museum is predominantly about like, naval stuff. Boats. Navy history, shipyard archivery etc etc1. As far as I understand, this museum has always done things a little outside of the box and but since he's been in his position they've pushed the envelope a bit (complimentary).
For pride month 2026, they partnered with the Louise Lawrence Transgender Archive and created a full exhibit celebrating the impact of trans people of color throughout history. From black drag performances in the 1800's to flapper-era genderqueer photography, everything I've seen so far online looks really fucking cool and I'm glad they were able to platform it because frankly,
Trans people have always existed, will always exist, and attempts to say otherwise or snuff them out will always be outlasted by the human spirit
Now obviously, with me being located 3,000 miles away from the museum I can't go to the exhibit myself, buuuuut if any of you reading this find yourselves in the Bay Area between now and June 26th, I'd highly recommend going - it looks so fucking cool. Plus they're doing a Pride Flag raising ceremony on the 12th and that should be sick as hell.
