Oh cool, a dinner guest
So - we live in a city and I don't wanna downplay that, but it's flanked with wilderness in a way that no city I've ever lived in has been, if that makes sense? The grasp of civilization on this place vs nature feels relatively tenuous, and it delights me every day to no end that when looking out the window I can see like, actual-ass wildlife.
For example - this glorious motherfucker who showed up yesterday.
I'll spare you the gory photos because they're pretty 'nature documentary violent' but this friend roamed into the yard with a squirrel in its mouth, looked around, plopped down in the middle of the grass out in the open during daylight hours, and just started CHAWMPIN.
They spent nearly thirty minutes eating their meal. It was absolutely bonkers. At one point they heard me clicking away with my camera and looked up (top photo) but decided they didn't care and went back to the toski sandwich.

They ended the engagement by peeing on this tree stump. Della and I went out a bit later to see if there were any remains left we might need to clean up and the damn thing ate the entire skull of the squirrel - left only the tail and the intestinal tract.
Nature truly is majestic.
