The cruelty is the point
Just saying that if the company can afford to pay the CEO roughly $10million USD annually1 and also sell technology to be weaponized by the Israeli military in their ongoing genocide of Palestinians then maybe they could afford to like - I don't know, cut either one of those things instead of axing the jobs of over 9,000 people.
I know, I know, megacorporation fucking over rank and file workers isn't exactly shocking news but with Microsoft specifically being targeted by BDS for a boycot, instead of them taking the hint from profit drops and public callout and stopping the explicitly asked behavior....they just keep on keeping on and end the livelihoods of thousands of people whom did work for them that they benefited off of.
Only real upside here is people impacted don't have to work for the evil megacorp anymore but like, what do they do now? The industry has been absolutely ravaged by layoffs for the last 5 years. The skillset for a triple A studio doesn't always map 1:1 with other roles in smaller orgs or outside of game development entirely, and starting your own studio is suicide unless you've got massive financial safety nets (and even then a huge gamble).
Anyway, if you're still reading, here's a photo of a small smiley face bead I found on a walk the other day. I think someone's bracelet broke because down the hill there were like 10 more beads of a similar type with different letters and symbols on them.
