The September Bird Haul

A red-tailed hawk on a power line turned back to stare at the camera

I've said this before but despite the name of the blog (or the band or my online 'brand' for the last 15+ years), I fell into bird photography completely by accident - in that I fell into photography by accident, then got really into doing moon photography so Della got me a better zoom lens for that, which was timed to when we moved to a place with more birds. Not that the desert has a lack of birds, but we've definitely got an abundance here in New England. This has become a part of my life. "Drop what you're doing, there's a hawk on the power lines" is like a weekly occurrence now. It helps that I work from home and my neighbors know to text me when there are friends out there.

Anyway, please enjoy - I tried adding titles to the ones I know if you mouse over (sorry mobile users I think)

A black and white speckled woodpecker on a tree
A bright red cardinal standing on grass
A bird with a leaf in its mouth running through undergrowth
A falcon flying in the air with a somewhat ridiculous look in its eye
The falcon from a further viewpoint

Two doves in sunset light on top of a house
Photo of a seagull
A blue jay perched on a stone structure of some sort
A large (I believe) Cooper's Hawk standing on grass and proudly looking around
This fucking guy here. Landed in the yard, walked around on the ground for a bit and then took off before I could get some decent shots. Also it's kinda funny how differently my lenses handled the greens of the grass.

Anyway that's it for September's birds. Check back in for Octobers if I get any. It's always hit or miss.
