THREE FEET OF SNOW, MAN

Cannot express how happy I am

About a week and a half ago I noticed a snowflake at the end of the 10-day forecast. It started as a whopping 6-8 inches predicted for that upcoming Sunday which was pretty fucking great for actual snow coverage where I live; some years we've gotten a total of like 12 for the entire winter so like, those numbers are nothing to balk at for a single day!

As news reports of nationwide weather conditions started to file in, the "6-8" started evolving gradually toward 8-11, 11-15, 16-21 etc until we finally settled on the Saturday before it was supposed to start with a predicted forecast of 26 goddamn inches. Stoked. Beyond excited. Fuckin a!

We ended up with 38

I'm still in absolute shock at how pretty is is. Here's some camera focus adventures featuring icicles and snowbound bird baths

I can't really put into words how silly the whole experience was so instead I'm gonna share some photos and gifs.

Gif of a lichen-covered tree branch being pelted by snow

It started around 8am Sunday morning and it did not stop snowing fully until about 5pm Monday.

Gif of a bunch of hemlock plants being snowed upon

I went on walks through it (which probably was stupid but I wanted photos goddamnit it)

gif of a twig peeking above a mound of snow

Also took a bunch of photos and gifs through windows

I'm still smiling even though my back hurts from all the shoveling

It just didn't stop

There's this abandoned outdoor fireplace / chimney thing that I like taking photos of. Here it is overgrown in the summer for context:

photo of a brick chimney structure surrounded by wooden logs, overgrown with tall grass and large flowers

and here it is getting hit with our 'heavy' snow earlier in January (total of like 5 inches)

the same structure now throughly dusted in snow

Here is is this morning

the structure is almost unrecognizable; most of it is buried in snow

This is my front door's side window; can you see the size of that snow bank??

View from inside a window; snow is coming up to cover about half of it

Oh and speaking of front doors, good luck trying to open it. Despite doing intermittent shoveling throughout, by Monday morning I had to jump out of a second floor window to be able to shovel the doorways clear. 10/10 no regrets.

This is a second floor balcony window (Our place is on a hill so one side of the house is street level and the other is elevated).

a door unable to open because snow is blocking it

There is a whole-ass wooden bench under this snowdrift

And despite it all, Snowapple says good morning.
