When Bad Things Happen to Bad People
When someone uses their life to perpetuate harm on a monumental scale, I don't think it's a bad thing when their ability to do said harm is stopped.
Note:I posted about this on Bluesky yesterday breaking my rule of 'thoughts go on blog, share blog to socials' and it's worth repeating with some more thoughts
My generation watched school shooting after school shooting and all we were ever given was “thoughts and prayers but the part of this 200+ year old document that predates police forces we’ve willfully misinterpreted means y’all are gonna have to just live with it” so yesterday was a pretty weird day.
I say “my generation” because the Columbine shooting happened when I was in high school, but that was a watershed moment for it to just never stop so really anyone my age or younger.
Sandy Hook should have been a slam dunk to getting anything done in terms of gun violence in this country and instead we got a decade of “it’s a hoax” by right wing mouthpieces and the gun lobby - and lemme tell you it was cathartic when the dude who promoted that conspiracy was held to account, losing an incredibly expensive and public lawsuit from the parents of the dead kids - so I’m really not surprised that a lot of people (myself included) are going full crab rave dot mp3 about a man whose final words were a racist catch-all downplaying school shootings while being shot at a school.
Charlie Kirk's entire existence was to promote a right wing theocratic white ethnostate, and his efforts have lead to incalculable damage to society; do I think "shoot anyone who disagrees with me"? No - but since these people already want me dead (Queer, mixed-race, despoiling a white woman by giving her mixed race kids, neurodivergent, communist, etc) and are in the process of actively harming people like me on a regular basis I'm not gonna shed any tears about his neck exploding on camera.
"We have to have the moral high ground" is how Democrats keep losing elections. People being stomped to death don't wanna hear eulogies for the stompers.
Oh and while we're at it - before anyone starts fearmongering about a supposed wave of left wing terrorism, let's remember that 84% of domestic political violence in the US since the 90's have been committed by right wing terrorists
Since 1990, far-right extremists have committed far more ideologically motivated homicides than far-left or radical Islamist extremists, including 227 events that took more than 520 lives.[1] In this same period, far-left extremists committed 42 ideologically motivated attacks that took 78 lives.
